A 5’10” man of ruddy complexion, black hair and brown eyes. He is stout of build and carries a faranj and a composite bow.
Artemus was born in Tul Harar as the son of a lieutenant in the city guard. After his mother died in childbirth, his father raised him with the help of various nursemaids. His father was well liked by his men not only because he was a good leader, but because, as they put it, “good things happen to him, and therefore to his men.” When Artemus was a boy, his father and his men left Tul Harar to help defend Rask from Clan Bulgan’s army, which was staging the overthrow of Clan Masra. Artemus’ father was killed in the defense of Rask. Before he left, Artemus’ father made arrangements with the local Tayee temple. They were to look after Artemus if he (Artemus’ father) should not return. Artemus’ remaining years as a child were spent breaking curfew and learning to handle himself in the streets of Tul Harar. He discovered that he is a natural with a faranj (narrow-bladed scimitar). Though he was capable of handling most situations he encountered, sheer luck saved his life on more than one occasion. Artemus has now come of age and the Tayee have given up hope that he will pursue a priestly path. Knowing his desire to avenge his father and return Clan Masra to its rightful place, the Tayee priests suggested that he visit a man named Shalazar in the city of Tyarrett. They then sent him on his way as a free adult with their blessings. He has traveled with a caravan from Tul Harar to Tyarrett to meet Shalazar.
